Valerie Kent: Mixed Media: Collage and Texture
Loyalist College: Workshop 7801 $289 or 168.50 July 2 to 6 Monday through Friday. It will take place in the Kente Bldg. Room 2L11 from 9 to 4 p.m.
This workshop demonstrates how to use familiar materials in new ways. You will create two specialty papers to use with your collages: Crystalline Paper and Brayer Paper. We will also work with Transfers. These new additions will add great pizzazz. After scaffolding your supports with texture you will have a starting point and your paintings will have three-dimensionality. A wide variety of materials, including the specialty papers, oriental papers, egg shells, cheesecloth, dried flower petals, gesso, sand, tiny glass beads, acrylic mediums and gels and any other materials of choice may be used. You paint with watercolour and acrylic paint, applying elements and principles of art, including composition, values, texture, and colour mixing. The theme for this year is Movement: representational, symbolic or abstract. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels. A materials fee of $20 is payable to the intstructor on the first day.
This is a really interesting workshop and we do such a variety of artworks. I hope to see you there.
My first summer show of the season will be on from July 7 to August 12th at the Georgina Arts Centre & Gallery. I expect to have about 30 pieces in the show. This gallery is in Sutton, Ontario

Valerie Kent B.Ed., B.F.A., M.F.A.,O.C.T. is an experienced artist and instructor. She studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts, Concordia University, University of Iowa, St. Francis Xavier University, York University, University of Toronto, Ontario Institute of Education. Valerie paints in watercolours, acrylics, oils and mixed media. She presents workshops widely to art societies, colleges and leads art river cruises in France and land trips to Italy. She is represented by Gallery Artplus in Belleville, ON and is a member of IAOCA International Association of Contemporary Artists (Japan).
